The Quantum Annual uses stories and data from TQI’s data platform to summarize the scientific and financial highlights of 2021.

The TQI Annual Report sums up an intense —  i.e. crazy — year in quantum.

From mega-mergers to public listings and from new reports of quantum supremacy to steady progress on quantum advantage, the industry’s entrepreneurs and research teams had no shortage of headlines in 2021.

The numbers speak for themselves.

According to TQI, about $3.2 billion in total private funding was announced during the year, including special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs. In just Quarter 4 of 2021, a total of $1 billion of private capital was invested in quantum technology companies.

In research, teams of scientists from businesses and research institutions around the globe have made progress in developing the technologies necessary to build the quantum industry — from error-correction to natural language processing. Teams working on quantum hardware approaches have also made stunning advances toward quantum advantage and even quantum supremacy.
